The Broken Consort was created in 2003 as an early music workshop at Universidad de Los Lagos (Osorno), in order to promote and make the music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods known to the Chilean public.
Among its first members were Hulda Riveros (conductor/recorder), Octavio Tenorio (recorder) and Moisés Bittner (baroque flute), along with guest musicians: Alejandro Gallardo (viola da gamba) and Esteban Silva (baroque flute). Always with the careful guidance of Ms Renate Mattich (viola da gamba and recorder).
The concerts presented were:
- 'Music for Shakespearean Theatre & La Belle Chanson de France' (4th Dec 2003, Aula Magna Institut Culturel Alliance Française, Osorno).
- 'The Broken Consort & Classical Guitar Workshop'(30th Sept 2004, Diario Austral Hall, Osorno)
- 'Mvsica Reservata' (25th-26th Nov 2004, Lutheran Churches, Purranque & Osorno).
- 'Exporigami' (19th Feb 2005, Emilio Held Arts Centre, Purranque)
- 'Spring Days' (10th-11th Nov 2005, San Sebastian and San Francisco Churches, Purranque & Osorno).
After three years, The Broken Consort splits off from the university and begins searching for a new repertoire. Renate Mattich assumes as conductor and the group continues as a trio (recorder, baroque flute and viola da gamba). Darío Burgos (virginal) participates as a guest musician.

Constanza Büttinghausen and Claudio Lavin (recorders) are invited as guest musicians. During the same month, the Early Music Workshop "Dafne", conducted by Octavio Tenorio, presents 'Christmas Concert' at Emilio Held Arts Centre, Purranque.
2007: a new repertoire study process begins. Flautist Cecilia Matthey (who had already been playing along with Renate at Colegio Puerto Varas since 1999) and Pianist Anita Gonzalez (Carolina Klagges Conservatoire) are invited to join the group. In December, the Early Music Workshop "Dafne" presents 'Adventskonzert' at Surazo Art Gallery, Osorno and Emilio Held Arts Centre, Purranque. Patricio Soto (violin, countertenor-sopranino) participates as guest musician.
